Spring often brings severe weather in North Texas…don’t be caught off guard!
Preparation is key in staying safe and minimizing the impacts of a severe storm. Here’s a few things you can do before severe weather strikes!
- Create an emergency plan with your family. Pick your safe room (lowest floor, interior room with no windows). It’s a good idea to keep a flashlight and some bottled water in your safe room as well.
- Practice your emergency plan to ensure everyone understand what to do!
- Check the local forecast regularly to see if you’re at risk for severe weather.
- Sign up notifications! Local weather apps on your phone will alert you to severe weather. You can also check with your city website to enroll in text weather alerts.
- Pay attention to the outdoor sirens – take shelter if they’re going off!
- Prepare your home by keeping trees and branches trimmed near your home. If you know a storm is potentially coming, secure loose items and move valuable objects (like your car) inside if possible.
- Help your neighbors – encourage them to come up with a plan to keep their families safe!
Stay safe, friends!
