Severe Weather Preparation for North Texans

By April 13, 2022Insurance

Spring often brings severe weather in North Texas…don’t be caught off guard!

Preparation is key in staying safe and minimizing the impacts of a severe storm.  Here’s a few things you can do before severe weather strikes!

  • Create an emergency plan with your family. Pick your safe room (lowest floor, interior room with no windows). It’s a good idea to keep a flashlight and some bottled water in your safe room as well.
  • Practice your emergency plan to ensure everyone understand what to do!
  • Check the local forecast regularly to see if you’re at risk for severe weather.
  • Sign up notifications! Local weather apps on your phone will alert you to severe weather.  You can also check with your city website to enroll in text weather alerts.
  • Pay attention to the outdoor sirens – take shelter if they’re going off!
  • Prepare your home by keeping trees and branches trimmed near your home. If you know a storm is potentially coming, secure loose items and move valuable objects (like your car) inside if possible.
  • Help your neighbors – encourage them to come up with a plan to keep their families safe!

Stay safe, friends!
